Biometric Fingerprint Devices
Biometry or biometrics is the science of measurements on living things.
Biometric authentication is the automatic detection of a living body with appropriate characteristics. The biometric authentication or identification of any person is confirmed by the comparison of appropriate characteristic physical features with stored biometric reference data.
Compared to smart cards, biometric systems have two major advantages. For smart cards, a PIN or a password is required and the card can be given away. Biometric procedures such as fingerprinting methods, do not need passwords and are exempt from the person they identify, are not separable.
Through a combination of fingerprints and smart cards, security can also be increased. Here are the fingerprints on the smart card securely stored. This allows the fingerprint as a password or PIN replacement act, or as an additional verification can be used.
iC Compas products use fingerprint devices for identification and authentication. Fingerprints can be be stored encrypted in user databases (Database, ADS, LDAP)as well as on a smart card.
